IONA Calls for Immediate Humanitarian Intervention in Gaza: “Silence is No Longer an Option”
- Press Release:
- IONA
[Warren, Michigan] — The Islamic Organization of North America (IONA) issues an urgent appeal to
the international community, civil society, faith leaders, and people of conscience everywhere to break
the silence and take immediate action in response to the unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe
unfolding in Gaza.
The people of Gaza are enduring unspeakable suffering under a relentless and unlawful blockade that
has led to the total collapse of essential services. The United Nations has now classified the situation as
the final stage of famine. Starvation, disease, and indiscriminate violence have become daily realities.
Infants, women, and the elderly are perishing not due to natural causes, but because of man-made
inaction and imposed deprivation.
The recent strike on the Holy Family Catholic Church (July 17, 2025) is one among many attacks on
houses of worship, hospitals, and refugee shelters. These attacks represent a blatant violation of
international law and moral norms. The targeting of sacred spaces and unarmed civilians exemplifies the
unchecked impunity that has characterized this ongoing assault.
IONA condemns these actions in the strongest possible terms. We call for:
- An immediate and unconditional ceasefire.
- The immediate entry of humanitarian aid and medical supplies.
- The restoration of water, electricity, and health services.
- International accountability for violations of humanitarian law.
This is not merely a political crisis—it is a moral emergency. The magnitude of Gaza’s suffering transcends borders, ideologies, and affiliations. It is a test of our shared humanity.
“What is happening in Gaza is not just a tragedy—it is a moral collapse of the global conscience.” Imam Steve Mustapha Elturk, President of IONA said. “As people of faith, we are commanded to stand with the oppressed, not just with our prayers but with our voices and our actions. Silence is complicity. We must demand an end to this suffering—now,” He added.
We appeal to faith communities across traditions to raise their voices, to pray not only with words but with action. To all governments and institutions with influence: history will remember what you did—or failed to do—in this moment.
The children of Gaza do not need your sympathy. They need your solidarity.
Break the silence. Demand justice. Deliver aid. Now.

IONA’s mission is to transform its members and help transform the surrounding communities to righteous, God-fearing people, who collectively strive for the highest moral standard and constantly seek forgiveness from our Creator to earn His pleasure. We seek His compassion and mercy in this life and in the hereafter. We rejuvenate our soul through internal struggle and spiritual exercise in worship of our creator God. The strength of our belief in God gives us the courage to establish good and forbid evil, thus promoting a system of justice for all mankind.
