IONA Marks Eid al-Adha with Reflection on Sacrifice and Solidarity with Gaza

[WARREN, MI] – The Islamic Organization of North America (IONA) is pleased to announce that Eid al-Adha will be observed on Friday, June 6, 2025. IONA extends heartfelt greetings to the Muslim community and neighbors of all faiths. As we gather to commemorate the noble legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him), we are reminded of the profound lessons of trust in God, devotion, and sacrifice that this sacred occasion teaches us.
Eid al-Adha is not only a time of ritual and festivity, but also a call to remember those whose daily lives are defined by struggle, patience, and resilience. This year, our community turns its hearts and prayers to the people of Gaza, who continue to endure immense suffering under siege and occupation. Their fortitude reflects the deepest essence of sacrifice: to remain steadfast in the face of hardship, with dignity and faith.
“The spirit of Eid teaches us that real sacrifice is not just in ritual, but in sharing our blessings, standing for justice, and speaking for the oppressed,” said Imam Mustapha Elturk, Ameer of IONA. “As we celebrate, we cannot forget our brothers and sisters in Gaza who are denied the most basic rights of safety, food, and shelter.”
For over 19 months, the genocide in Gaza has killed more than 54,000 Palestinians, injuring over 123,000, and destroying civilian infrastructure. A recent airstrike killed 9 of 10 children of Dr. Alaa Al-Najjar while she was treating patients.
IONA encourages its members and community to channel the lessons of Eid into acts of compassion—through charity, advocacy, and prayer—for all those facing injustice around the world.
May this holy day renew our commitment to justice, compassion, and unity.
May Allah (SWT) accept the Hajj of all pilgrims, grant them a safe journey, and allow them to return with their sins forgiven and their prayers answered. For those of us who are not performing Hajj, may Allah accept our good deeds, forgive our sins, and elevate our ranks in this life and the hereafter.
