Macomb Briefs (April 02, 2008)

Clergy prepare declaration for Pope Benedict
A group of Macomb County religious leaders plans to deliver a six-paragraph “Declaration for Life” to Pope Benedict XVI on April 17 that denounces terrorism, war and abortion. On Monday, the group met at the Islamic Organization of North America in Warren to condemn the “senseless loss of life” worldwide and called for all faiths to stand together. The group includes Imam Steve Elturk, president of the Islamic Organization of North America; the Revs. Earnest Hatcher and David Kasbow, co-chairman of the Warren-based American Clergy Leadership Conference; and the Rev. Lawrence Ventline, director of Care of the Soul Counseling at Sacred Heart Church in Roseville.
